Iveco: The Versatile Truck Manufacturer
Iveco is an Italian vehicle manufacturing company headquartered in Turin, Italy and is run by the CNH Industrial Group. Five different brands came together in 1975 to incorporate Iveco with their merger. These brands were OM, Magirus-Deutz, Fiat Veicoli Industriali, Unic and Lancia Veicoli Speciali. Iveco stands for Industrial Vehicles Corporation and is a manufacturer of light, medium and heavy construction vehicles, commercial vehicles, buses and special vehicles such as firefighting trucks and vehicles for the military and civil defence.
Iveco has a number of production units spread across a large number of countries namely China, Europe, Africa, Argentina, Australia, Brazil and Russia. It also runs nearly 5000 sales and assistance points in over 160 countries in the world. Total vehicle output of the company touches a figure of 150,000 commercial vehicles which gives it an annual turnover of €10 billion. The company is fully aware of its social responsibility and undertakes a number of sustainability and innovation projects regularly. It has been working hand in glove with Transaid, a non-profit organization from England since 2005. Iveco donated a number of Stralis 4X2 models to the National Institute of transport in Dar El Salam, Tanzania to train their drivers and thus reduce the occurrences of fatal accidents on Sub Saharan roads. It has also opened an eco-sustainable dealership near Sao Polo, Brazil.
Having given several ‘best in the class models’ to the trucking industry, Iveco is known for its creations. Let us have a sneak peek into two of its frontrunner truck models:
One of the most fuel and cost efficient trucks in the 44 tones segment that ever rolled out of an Iveco manufacturing facility is the Iveco Stralis. Stralis is available in a number of models and has the capacity to undertake a number of versatile missions. The Stralis range of trucks has 3 types of engines viz. 8, 10 and 13 liters, 3 heights viz. short, medium and high roof and 3 cabins viz. Active Day, Active Time and Active Space. The AD or Active Day model is the one with smallest cab configuration while AS High roof has the biggest cabin. The customer has a wide choice of driveline combinations such as the Cursor 8, Cursor 10 and Cursor 13 engines which provide power between 360hp to 450hp.
The Iveco Trakker is another unique and splendid truck from the house of Iveco. It has been designed for heavy duty use and is a performance oriented 8X8 truck. The truck has been successful in trans-road regions as well and is capable of carrying any sort of weight over any road conditions.
